Properly prepared soil is critical to plant success. Cape Cod's sandy soil provides excellent drainage, but too much sand supports little life. Adding organic matter such as compost will help hold water and vital nutrients needed for plants to establish a healthy root system and thrive.
A layer of mulch around trees and shrubs helps suppress weeds, retain moisture, and maintain soil temperature.
